Michael Tarbox brings Appalachian folk, backwater blues and gospel to Norey’s Music Night!

Tarbox_Solo-LiveThis Wednesday, Norey’s is proud to have Michael Tarbox return to our stage for our music night! With his smokey-voice and visceral take on American music, he’s sure to delight Newport music aficionados.

Playing both his own original music and arrangements of songs dating back over two centuries like St. James Infirmary, Jack of Diamonds and The Cuckoo. Michael’s interpretations of these classics brings a freshness and immediacy which engages audiences wherever he plays. Here’s a sample…

“At the heart of Tarbox’s music is his guitar, as raw as it is charismatic. It creates an electricity that courses through every song.” –– Twangville.com

“Between the fiddle, string bass, drums and slide guitar, you won’t know what hit you.” –- The New Yorker

“Grimy, thrilling noise” — Mother Jones

“Tarbox is the most evocative and distinctive blues-roots artist to come down the pike in ages.” — Calgary Sun

“A must for those interested in the continuation of traditional music into the present and perhaps a glimpse into the music’s future.” — The Onion

Town Meeting will be playing Norey’s Music Night July 20th!

We’re excited to announce that Norey’s will be welcoming Town Meeting to Newport on Wednesday, July 20th.

Here’s the band’s bio!

Luke and Russ Condon – founding members of Town Meeting grew up in a small town called Ayer in Central Massachusetts. Growing up, they shared a love of listening to and creating great music, which they still do. They also happen to be brothers. Brendan (Babe) Condon is also a brother and is now a member of the band, he plays a mean harmonica and vocals.

Dean Adrien, formerly of Orphan, joined the band in April of 2013. Having played music most of his life with the likes of Jonathan Edwards, Tom Rush and several others from the Boston Folk scene of ago, Adrien was already a well accomplished musician when he joined the band.

TIm Cackett began playing Bass in High school and was heavily influenced by jazz and funk. After high school he played guitar and toured with various hardcore bands, most notably “Anchorlines”. After stepping away from the heavy music scene he formed “Poor Soul” and acoustic/harmonica driven folk project. After opening for TM on more than one occasion Tim soon realized he belonged with us and picked up the Bass once again, to give the band a bigger and more wholesome TM sound.

Influenced by a wide range of musical acts – from Dawes to The Avett Brothers to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young – when Dean, TIm and the Condon brothers get together it’s nothing short of spectacular. Their songs are original, well written and harmony driven with a real emphasis on musical quality and arrangement. In other words, they don’t just write a song, they take some time and craft one.

Since the spring of 2013 when they officially formed,Town Meeting has been playing venues in New England from Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA to colleges in RI and cafes in NH Whether for a few or for many, when these guys perform, it’s always entertaining. (Just ask someone who’s seen them!)
